Update on Muswellbrook Aquatic and Fitness Centre project

Council shares the frustration being felt across the community by ongoing delays of construction works at the Aquatic and Fitness Centre and - with current COVID-19 restrictions in place – the matter is, for the time being, out of our hands.

A recent incident on site resulted in the construction site being closed while an investigation was carried out, a report prepared, and remediation works undertaken – which has had an impact on project milestones.

Following on from that, the COVID-19 public health notice issued by the NSW Government means that contractors need to show evidence of a satisfactory, approved COVID-19 safe plan before they can resume work on the site.

And, while works are taking longer than first expected, it is deemed to be in the best interest of public safety for the centre to remain closed while the bulk of the works are completed.

This means all classes, including learn to swim and aqua aerobics, are cancelled for now. Residents who enrolled for the learn to swim program have had payments credited while swim memberships will be extended by the length of the closed period on reopening.

The new state-of-the-art aquatic and fitness centre is a major construction project which will significantly improve and expand the swim and recreation facilities at the centre and include a new water activity park, heated learn to swim and therapy pool, spa and sauna, new kiosk, entrance and foyer, a party room and viewing deck.

The Fitness Centre remains open and is operating on winter hours: Monday to Friday: 6am-7pm, Saturday 9am-4pm, Sunday 10am-4pm.

Council again apologises for the inconvenience and thanks the community for their patience as we endeavour to deliver a positive outcome for the whole community as soon as possible.
