Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre closed 4 September, reopening 5 September

Due to illness impacting staffing numbers, the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre will remain closed to the public for the remainder of today, Sunday 4 September 2022.

The Aquatic Centre cannot operate without a full roster of staff for public safety reasons.

The Fitness Centre will be open until 4pm.

Council apologises for any inconvenience. The Centre will reopen at 6am Monday 5 September.

Use your First Lap swimming voucher at Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre or Denman Memorial Pool

First Lap swimming vouchers are now available on the Service NSW website (www.service.nsw.gov.au) and can be used at approved First Lap providers, Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre and Denman Memorial Pool.

The First Lap voucher program aims to make water safety education more accessible for families by providing $100 vouchers for parents, guardians and carers of children aged 3-6 years who are not enrolled in school. The program has been expanded to include children starting kindergarten in 2022, who may have missed vital water safety education during their pre-school years due to COVID-19 restrictions

Swimming is an important part of life for many Australians. Whether enjoying a splash at the local pool, heading to the beach, or going for a dip in a river, it is important that all people, especially children, have skills and confidence in and around the water.

Water safety education is key to ensuring children learn vital safety and survival skills from an early age – a skill they will keep with them for life.  By making swimming and water safety education more accessible for families, the First Lap program will help keep children healthy, happy and safe in and around the water.

Learn to swim classes are currently held in the outdoor pools. Contact the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre on 02 6549 3786 for more information or download an enrolment form at www.pools.muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au/learn-to-swim-agreement-form.

Update on Muswellbrook Aquatic & Fitness Centre Upgrade

The indoor pool at Muswellbrook Aquatic & Fitness Centre will remain closed for the duration of the construction of the new indoor facility. The work has included some unplanned remediation work which has been carried out to make the construction site safe and the project has been delayed due to COVID restrictions. It is deemed to be in the best interest of public safety for the centre to remain closed while the bulk of the indoor works are completed.

Council apologises for the inconvenience, and it is expected that the indoor pool facilities, new and old, will be available in the first quarter of 2022.

The gym is open, and the Muswellbrook and Denman outdoor pools will reopen on Saturday, 2 October.

Council are taking details of those interested in learning to swim and aqua aerobics classes.  Complete the Learn to Swim Agreement form, call Aquatic and Fitness Centre staff on 02 6549 3786 to talk to one of the Aquatic & Fitness Centre staff members or email aquafitness@muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au  Classes will be delivered outdoors and subject to change based on weather conditions.

All previous learn to swim payments have been credited, and swim memberships will be extended by the length of the closed period on reopening.

When completed, the new indoor pool facilities will include a new water activity park, warm water pool, spa and sauna, new kiosk, entrance and foyer and a party room.
